The Most Popular Every Intention Articles in 2024

Another year, another roundup of my most popular articles of the past year!

2024 was an interesting year for me. I hit some significant milestones, most notably turning 40! 

My theme for 2024 was to Resist Less, the idea being:

  • Noticing the things that make my hackles go up or provoke an immediate no. 
  • Being more open to change, taking chances, and trusting I can manage in the unknown.
  • Being more conscious of what I can and can't control.

Looking back, it’s neat to notice how this theme comes up in several articles below. 

More than anything, it’s always fun to look back and take stock of what resonated with you, my dear readers, and what fell flat. Maybe one of these will hit now when they didn’t before. Either way, these are the 10 Every Intention articles that got the most buzz in 2024!

1. 5 Ways For Introverts To Keep Their Social Battery Charged

Everyone likes introvert articles! I share a particular experience at a networking event that I think anyone who leans toward introversion can relate to. More than anything, it has some good reminders to listen to your body and pay attention to the things that drain you. When you know the signals and situations, you can be intentional about how you react and plan for them, regardless of whether you are introverted or extroverted!

2. Debunking The False Promises of Productivity

I got some great comments back on this one. It covers some of the common misconceptions people have about productivity, namely the (false) “assumption that if you can find the right tool and optimize enough, you will be able to “do it all.” And if you can “do it all,” you will be happy and have time for the things that are important to you.”

I provide four mental shifts that will help you change how you think about your time, processes, and what you prioritize now versus some nebulous point in the future.

3. The Pursuit of Calm 

I open this one with a sneak peak into what my ideal Saturday looks like, in illustration of how far I’ve come in my own pursuit of a calm life. The messaging about what it means to be successful and how hard it can be to feel like “enough” is so deeply embedded in North American culture, and this article is a reflection on where I stand in becoming disentangled from that messaging. 

This one felt like it connected back to the theme of Resisting Less, where I’m continuing to let go of productivity guilt and share more about figuring out what it means to be enough for me and changing my definition of what it means to strive. Worth a read if you find yourself struggling with finding that calm in your own life.

4. 7 Rules For An Effective Meeting Culture

Meetings get a bad rap, but unfortunately, they often deserve it. This one resonates with many readers who experience the worst of ineffective, time-wasting meetings and are looking for ideas to help make a change. While none of the rules are particularly provocative, they are good reminders to help reset some bad meeting habits and encourage change. You might not be able to change your company’s meeting culture single-handedly, but you can take responsibility for your part in it.

5. My Reflection On 1500 Days of Daily Reflection

Y’all know how much I LOVE reflection, so I particularly enjoyed writing this reflection on reflection. So meta. 😅

If you’ve ever considered starting your own daily reflection, this article is a good representation of the value you can get from it when you stay consistent. I learn so much about myself when I look back on my reflections, and I deeply appreciate this record of the happenings in my life, big and small. This article shares some things I’ve learned over more than four years of daily reflection.

6. Part 1: Understanding Impostor Syndrome and The Five Types of Impostors

Impostor syndrome is a bit of a buzzword these days, but it’s one that many (if not most) can relate to, at least at some point. While it’s kind of along the lines of identifying your personality type, there is value in having language to describe your behaviour and tendencies. This language is part of learning how impostor syndrome holds you back. 

This article is the first of a two-part series that includes information on where impostor syndrome shows up in your life and labels for the different types of impostors. I even share a story of one of my most memorable impostor experiences. Part two also has some strategies to help you move past those impostor experiences

7. 40 Days To 40

I turned 40 this year! This one has some reflections on aging, my 30s, and thoughts on the decade ahead. It’s another good example of the theme of Resisting Less showing up as I learn more about who I am and who I want to be. It’s a good one to check out for those of you who are approaching a milestone. Even if you’re not, there are some thought-provoking questions to consider.

8. Part 1: Burnout Is A Thousand Tiny Self-Betrayals

Burnout is a hot topic these days. While there are many external contributors to burnout, some are within your ability to change. This article digs into how the small choices you make at your own expense each day can snowball into exhaustion. Over time, it’s easy for chaos to feel more familiar with chaos than calm and then struggle with productivity guilt even when you have an opportunity to relax. 

Check this one out if you need some inspiration to safeguard against the comfort of chaos and the inevitable burnout that comes with it. Part 2 of this duo gets into how we influence other people’s burnout

9. The Right Kind of Busy

Everyone is just so busy all the time, but the question you need to ask yourself is, is it the right kind of busy? This article touches on some of the ways you might be the “wrong” kind of busy, like being busy as a status symbol or because you like to feel needed. It then asks you to think about what the right kind of busy looks like in this season of your life. 

There are some great questions to help you think about what living a “good life” means and what it takes to prioritize the things that make up that good life, even among the other demands. It’s a good one to revisit when you start feeling overwhelmed to help re-centre and reconnect with what really matters to you.

I’m often asked, “What tools does a productivity consultant use every day? " This is the answer. While I’m generally tool-agnostic with my clients (software and tools support good habits; they don’t solve bad ones!), these four tools fit best for me and are usually initial starting points for discussions.
